Following the news that James Charles was named the first male CoverGirl, the brand continues its message of inclusivity by naming Muslim beauty blogger Nura Afia as the ambassador for the new So Lashy! BlastPro Mascara. I’m a huge fan of Afia’s YouTube channel, as are her 200,000+ subscribers. Afia often posts tutorials on how to achieve the perfect smokey eye or the freshest daytime look, but she also uses her hijab in creative ways. She’s posted videos on how to tie a turban hijab and make it look flawless, garnering thousands of likes and comments. Now, she’s showing off her skills to a huge audience with a new CoverGirl commercial and a giant billboard in Times Square in New York City.

Beauty blogger Nura Afia joins the other CoverGirl ambassadors – many of them new as well. These include James Charles, Amy Pham, a DJ, model and actress, Modern family star Sofia Vergara, Sugar Symphony YouTubers Chloe + Halle, and Katy Perry. It’s a truly diverse, gorgeous group of men and women.

As for the new mascara, So Lashy! launched yesterday. It features a 3-in-1 brush that shapes and forms your lashes, as well as a ball tip that helps you reach those hard-to-reach corners. Watch Afia and the other brand ambassadors try out the mascara when the commercial airs on November 14.
