“Strictly” star Kevin Clifton on the misunderstanding of the “perfect life”

Kevin, 41, made the comments during a recent appearance on actress Faye Brookes’ new podcast, “Not Fazed With Faye.”

As the pair discussed the common misconception that successful celebrities lead “perfect lives,” he bravely admitted: “There was a period on Strictly Come Dancing where I sometimes felt like I was putting on a show and in reality I felt terrible.”

Sometimes I felt like I was putting on a show.

“Not because of the show,” he stressed, “because the show itself was great for me and they’re all a great team and stuff. But I just went through a difficult phase at some point.”

“A sort of character version of me was born on Strictly Come Dancing,” he explained. “I wasn’t Kevin Clifton, who likes to eat coffee and bacon, watch Match Of The Day and read a book. It was ‘Kevin from Grimsby, folks!’. It’s kind of the cheeky, happy boy next door and that was born naturally, but then I felt I had to live up to that.”

“Maybe Matthew Perry felt he had to do justice to Chandler,” he added.

Kevin left Strictly in 2020 after seven years on the show. He said he made the move so he could “focus on other projects”.
