WACO, Texas (FOX 44) – If the kids want to get out and learn some cool new skills, there are some summer camps in Waco!

Skate World Waco is hosting a skate camp in July! It is available for participants ages 5-12. No previous skating experience is necessary and those who already skate will be introduced to new, challenging skills! Camp attendance is limited to 60 kids and there are several lesson sections based on ability – beginner, intermediate and advanced.

During the camp week, campers will be taught over 20 different skating skills, including safe standing up and falling down, as well as forward, backward and one-legged skating. Campers will also learn all of the session skate games during the week.

Art Center Waco hosts its Fabulous Fine Arts and Sculpt It! events. Some of these events revolve around the themes of “Enchanted Art” and “Space Odyssey.” First and second graders can explore different types of textile arts such as sewing, while third through sixth graders can experiment with different types of 3D art and mixed media!

The Heart of Texas Children’s Theatre is hosting its summer camp. This weekly themed camp brings well-known stories to life through performing arts!

Each week has a different theme – focusing on classical retelling, puppetry, musical theatre and more! This is designed so that children have fun with drama education and learn different ways to tell some of their favourite stories.

The makerspace MAKER’S EDGE is hosting its Maker Bot Battle Summer Camp. This Battle Bot-themed camp is all about building and customizing a remote-controlled battle robot that participants can take home!

Organizers say participants will learn about electronics, radio systems and mechanisms. These robot kits allow beginners to own a working robot with modular and customizable weapons. Then it’s time for robot combat!

Renew Church in Waco hosts Camp Art & Soul. This camp offers a unique experience and shows children how faith and creativity come together to create something beautiful for God!

According to the church, skilled artists and crafters will guide the children in targeted projects culminating in an art show on Sunday morning after camp. Children should sign up for their first and second choice of camp activity. If the first choice is full, they will automatically be signed up for their second choice.
