Leona Maguire goes into the final round in London with a two-stroke lead

Ireland’s Leona Maguire will go into the final round of the Aramco Team Series event in Hemel Hempstead with a two-stroke lead.

Maguire added a second round of 72 to her opening 66 at the Centurion Club, moving her to eight under par. Her Solheim Cup teammate Georgia Hall was her biggest rival after a second consecutive 70.

After making a bogey on her first hole of the day, the 10th, Maguire responded with a birdie on the 13th, only to drop the shot on the next.

Birdies on the third and sixth holes kept Maguire at the top of the leaderboard, while Hall finished her round poorly: the world number 38 raced to the turn in 31 shots but came home in 39 after losing strokes on the seventh and eighth holes.

Earlier this week, the Cavan golfer was unhappy with some aspects of his game, but he is aiming to be at his best in the coming months.

She said: “It’s been a bit of a mixed bag, a bit of an up and down this year. Of course I was second in Vegas and played really well there. Playing against Nelly in the final was definitely one of the highlights so far.”
