David Hamilton and Tyler O’Neill scored RBIs in the 12th inning and helped the Red Sox to a 6-5 victory over the Marlins

MIAMI – Automatic runner Romy Gonzalez scored a game-winning run on an RBI groundout by David Hamilton in the 12th inning, Tyler O’Neill added an RBI double and the Boston Red Sox beat the Miami Marlins 6-5 on Thursday to win the three-game series.

Gonzalez got to third base on Ceddanne Rafaela’s single against Matt Andriese (0-1) and then ran to third on Hamilton’s grounder. O’Neill followed with a hit to the warning track in center field that scored Rafaela.

Zack Kelly (3-1) threw two innings as a relief pitcher. Greg Weissert was the last to allow Jonah Bride’s sacrifice fly in the 12th inning, earning his first major league save.

Run-scoring singles by O’Neill and Enmanuel Valdez in the 11th inning gave the Red Sox a 4-2 lead, but Jesús Sánchez tied the game in the second half with a two-run homer on Kelly’s first pitch.

Sánchez missed the cycle by a single. His triple with two outs in the seventh inning ended Red Sox starter Nick Pivetta’s no-hit attempt.

Pivetta went seven scoreless innings. After Sánchez hit a three-run hit off the wall in center, Pivetta finished his outing with a strikeout of Jake Burger. Pivetta had two walks and 10 strikeouts, his longest start of the season.

Rafael Devers scored two runs and had three walks, while Hamilton had a single, a walk and two stolen bases for the Red Sox, who won their fourth straight game.

Boston’s Connor Wong went 0 for 2, ending his hitting streak at 17.

Kyle Tyler limited Boston to two runs and three hits in 5 1/3 innings. In his third major league appearance, Tyler had three walks and three strikeouts.

Marlins: INF Otto López (lower back inflammation) was placed on the 10-day injured list and Bride was recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville. … RHP Anthony Maldonado was sent to Jacksonville and Andriese was optioned from the same minor league club.

Red Sox: RHP Tanner Houck (7-6, 2.67) will start Friday when the Red Sox open a three-game road series against the New York Yankees. LHP Nestor Cortes (4-7, 3.51) will start for New York.
Marlins: No starter has been announced for the opener of their three-game home series against the Chicago White Sox on Friday. RHP Drew Thorpe (2-1, 4.43) will start for the White Sox.
