Ravens Training Camp Contest: Running Back

On the hunt

  • Derrick Henry
  • Justice Hill
  • Keaton Mitchell
  • Owen Wright
  • Rasheen Ali (Newbie)
  • Chris Collier (undrafted rookie)

Expected starters

Baltimore’s signing of Henry was one of the NFL’s biggest offseason moves. Since joining the Ravens, he has hit the ground running, showing up on the first day of voluntary workouts and quickly establishing himself as one of the team’s hardest workers. The two-time rushing champion is eager to prove he still has a lot left in the tank at age 30. He has rushed for more than 1,000 yards in five of the last six seasons and scored at least 10 touchdowns six years in a row. After eight seasons with the Tennessee Titans, Henry will bring the game’s most devastating stiff arm to Baltimore while running out of the shotgun more often. Playing in the same backfield as Lamar Jackson, opponents will be forced to defend a formidable combination of thunder and lightning.

Best fight

As a fifth-round pick, Ali will have to struggle to find a role as a rookie. Special teams could be Ali’s best opportunity. He suffered a bicep injury at the Senior Bowl that sidelined him during rookie minicamp, but Ali was on the field at the mandatory minicamp and is expected to get plenty of playing time in the preseason. With Mitchell (knee) not expected to return until sometime during the preseason, Ali has the opportunity to add depth to the running back room.

Under the radar

Collier is the first player from Division II Loch Haven to sign with an NFL team since 2011. Although Collier was not invited to the Combine, he began to gain more attention from NFL teams after a strong performance at Temple University’s Pro Day, where he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.48 seconds.
