Walkthrough for Ruined Forge Lava Intake – Elden Ring DLC

Looking for a complete overview of the Ruined Forge Lava Intake in Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree? The Ruined Forge Lava Intake is a mini-dungeon in Elden Ring’s Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC expansion that, as the name suggests, is full of bubbling lava. While traversing this dungeon, you’ll also be confronted with a number of Stone Golem Blacksmiths with gems in their backs, and it’s difficult to defeat them directly. Your effort will be worth it, however, as the dungeon is full of Forgestones waiting to be picked up, not to mention the handy Smithscript Dagger and the supremely powerful Anvil Hammer.

In this guide, we’ll explain exactly what you need to do to navigate the winding contours of the Ruined Forge Lava Intake in Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree.

To reach the Ruined Forge Lava Inlet Pit, head south of the Castle Front Site of Grace toward the crevice. Stick to the right side of the crevice instead of going straight in. You will soon come across a cave entrance that leads to the Ruined Forge Lava Inlet of Grace.

When you’re ready, go down the stairs and turn right. You’ll see a ghost mentioning a mysterious altar somewhere deeper in the ruins. Go ahead, climb down the ladder, and note the large pipe that serves as the centerpiece in this dungeon. After you’ve mastered the ladder, read the message on the floor that tells you to hit your enemies where they are weakest – a nice little hint on how to deal with the most annoying inhabitants of this dungeon. Continue along the path and you will see a chamber on your left that houses the first golem smith of the dungeon.

All golems in the Ruined Forge’s Lava Capture have red gems on their lower backs. This is a highly identifiable weak point, but targeting the gem can be difficult due to the quick, powerful strikes these stone giants deliver with their clubs. Roll around the giant to hit his gem, or target him from afar with your favorite projectiles or sorcery. Be aware, though, that unless you specifically hit his red gem, you’ll do minimal damage to the golem.

In Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, you can use magic to remove a magma sludge that is about to fall from the ceiling.

In this dungeon, you’ll constantly encounter giant golems forged from stone and slimes. The slimes aren’t too bad, but the golems are a nuisance until you target the red gems in their backs. | Photo credit: Rock Paper Shotgun/Bandai Namco

Once you have killed the golem, search the floor and find a 1 Gas stone1 Forgestone (4)and 1 Forgestone (1). The nearby body contains 4 Forgestone (5).

Leave this room and go down the opposite path, watching out for the magma slime that falls from the ceiling. Two or three well-timed hits should take it out and any other slime that falls in your path. After going straight for a bit, you’ll land on a railing platform with two more slimes. Kill them and loot the corpse to get 7. Forgestone (2)and then check the ground to find 1 Forgestone (1) and 1 Forgestone (3).

Continue following the path and you’ll land on a platform overlooking a wide open space with a ladder leading down. There are actually two ways down – you can climb up the ladder or jump off one side of the platform and land on a lower platform. Either way, once you reach the bottom you’ll come across a gaggle of golem smiths, slimes, and tons of items. There are 1 Forgestone (4) and 1 Forgestone (1) near the base of the ladder, 1 Dark Forgestone (2) on a corpse in a corner of the room near the stairs, and 1 Dark Forgestone (6) on a corpse in an adjoining room guarded by another golem.

This platform overlooks the largest central area of the Ruined Forge’s lava feed. You can either go straight to the ground or jump to a slightly lower platform that leads to several items and a lever. | Photo credit: Rock Paper Shotgun/Bandai Namco

If you go up the stairs where you picked up the Somber Smithing Stone (2), you will find the Cookbook of the Great Potentate (13) hidden on another corpse. Also nearby are 1 Forgestone (3) and 1 Forgestone (1). If you continue up the stairs and enter the destroyed platforms connected to them, you will receive 1 Forgestone (7) and 1 Rada fruit on two other bodies.

Also accessible from the stairs is another ladder that leads downwards. Climbing it will take you onto a raised ledge above another ledge that overlooks a magma pool. Pull the lever here and the giant pipe you saw earlier will descend into the lava, acting as a sort of makeshift platform.

Drop down from where you pulled the lever. A golem in the corner guarding a corpse that Smithscript Dagger will likely notice you and attack. Once he’s dead, be sure to grab the dagger – our guide to Shadow Of The Erdtree’s new throwing blades has all the details on this nimble weapon.

After picking up the dagger, jump onto the large pipe and enjoy the climb! There is a magma ooze that will try to catch you off guard as you climb, but it should be easy to overcome as long as you watch your footing. Don’t fall off – it’s really not worth it at this point!

At the top of the pipeline, turn right and you will see a room with the altar that the ghost mentioned. Interact with it and you will receive the gigantic Anvil Hammer – probably the most powerful weapon in the Elden Ring DLC - and 1 Antique Dragonsmithing Stone. A portal will also appear next to you, teleporting you safely to the entrance of the dungeon.
