Possible thunderstorms lead to cancellation of the “Movies Under the Stars” event

FLINT, MI – Due to a wave of rain and thunderstorms forecast for Friday night, organizers had to cancel the first “Movies Under the Stars” event in Flint in 2024.

“Communities First, Inc. is postponing its ‘Movies Under the Stars’ event scheduled for tonight, July 5, due to weather conditions,” said a press release issued Friday afternoon by the nonprofit organization organizing the event.

“Normally, the events are held outdoors in front of Flint City Hall, but due to the forecast of rain and thunderstorms, tonight’s event must be canceled and rescheduled for another date,” the press release said.

A new date for the cancelled event on Friday is expected to be announced shortly.

The National Weather Service issued separate tornado warnings for Huron and Clare counties Friday afternoon, but there is no confirmation that a tornado touched down in either area.

Communities First Inc. hosts “Movies Under the Stars” every summer, featuring outdoor family movies and pre-movie parties with games, food and prizes.

“Movies Under the Stars” offers a holistic, safe and entertaining program for families that also promotes community spirit.

This event connects families with community resources, promotes health and wellness, supports family literacy, and provides insights into STEM, arts and culture, and more.

The shows are free to the public and take place on the lawn behind Flint City Hall, 1101 Saginaw St.

Each pre-party starts at 7.30pm, the films begin at dusk.
