Grand Jury Considers Criminal Trial Against Diddy • Hollywood Unlocked

A recent update on the investigation into sex trafficking allegations involving Diddy suggests significant progress has been made.

According to a new report from @vanityfair, a federal grand jury in New York is reviewing evidence in a criminal case against the mogul. In addition, he faces another lawsuit in a series of civil cases brought by women who accuse him of assault or human trafficking during his celebrity peak.

As we all know, the allegations against Combs have escalated since last November, when his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura filed a major lawsuit alleging sexual harassment, coercion, domestic violence and other forms of abuse. Combs settled with Ventura the day after the lawsuit was filed, although he denied the allegations. In the aftermath, other women filed lawsuits, apparently encouraged by Ventura’s claims. Combs has denied these additional allegations as well.

The release of surveillance footage referenced in Ventura’s lawsuit alarmed those who had previously supported Combs’ claims of innocence: The 2016 footage shows Combs shoving and hitting Ventura as she tries to escape from a hotel room. Combs later confirmed the incident in a now-deleted Instagram video.

Due to the statute of limitations on criminal cases in California, Combs cannot be charged for the attack on Ventura because he admitted to it. However, a raid on his home in March led by the Department of Homeland Security suggested suspicions that he was involved in other illegal activities. According to recent reports, federal authorities are working to convene a grand jury in Manhattan to review the evidence against Combs. Prosecutors are examining allegations from several civil cases for possible leads.
