Houston Dynamo 2

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (July 5, 2024) – Houston Dynamo 2 ended a two-game away tour with a 1-1 draw against Ventura County FC. The home team won the penalty shootout 3-2 to earn an additional point.

Ventura County took the lead in the 27th minute after a foul outside the box. Isaiah Parente took the ensuing free kick that headed toward the penalty spot and Gabriel Arnold took advantage of the loose ball to score the game’s first goal.

Dynamo 2 equalised in the 53rd minute when Dynamo Academy graduate Kieran Sargeant crossed to the far post. Captain Diego Gonzalez intercepted the ball on the volley to score his second goal of the year.

Houston striker Ousmane Sylla forced a save with a shot from outside the box in the 31st minute. Sylla scored in Houston’s 3-1 win over Minnesota United FC 2 last Sunday.

Dynamo Academy player Mattheo Dimareli created Houston’s first threat of the night with a run into the box, creating space for a shot that was blocked by the Ventura County defense near the baseline. Dimareli was one of nine Dynamo Academy players or graduates who took the field tonight.

Dynamo 2’s last chance of the first half came in the 45th minute with a left-footed shot from Dimareli. His shot was blocked in the box. The 15-year-old ended up winning five tackles, more than any other Dynamo 2 player that night.

Dynamo 2 striker Isaiah Reid created space for a shot at the top of the box in the 83rd minute, but his shot went wide of the near post. Reid had scored goals in two consecutive games prior to this game.

Ventura County responded shortly after with a shot by Riley Delgado that forced a save from Dynamo 2 goalkeeper Xavier Valdez. The Dynamo goalkeeper saved two shots tonight against Ventura County. Valdez also saved two shots in the penalty kicks after regulation time.

Houston’s last chance of the second half came in the third minute of stoppage time when Gonzalez’s right foot shot from a free kick was saved by Brady Scott.

Dynamo 2 returns to SaberCats Stadium on July 11 to host Austin FC II. Tickets for this game and all Dynamo 2 games at SaberCats Stadium are free and available HERE.
