Judd can’t wait to start the new season – Welling United

Welling’s new right-back Myles Judd said his new side are looking good and can’t wait to start the 2024/25 National League South season.

Judd signed for the Wings in June after spending last season at Hemel Hempstead Town, where he made 21 appearances for the Tudors. After returning for pre-season training, Judd has indicated that his new team are working hard to prepare for their return to league play.

“As you can see from my current condition, the first week was tough, but it was good!” he said.

“All the boys, including me, are already sweating, but you can see that they can hardly wait to start the new season.

“So far the boys have been nice to me. Of course it’s nice to have someone I already know in Granty (Reece Grant) and he’s helped me settle in well. All the boys have been top class and you can say this is a good team to be a part of.”

Grant and Judd played together on the pitch during their time at Hemel Hempstead before Grant signed for Welling in February. He was signed by current Wings boss Rod Stringer, who Judd spoke very highly of when asked for his thoughts on his new manager.

“I see that he is definitely a winner and he is definitely the coach I want to play for.

“He will definitely help us as a team to get results and win games and through wins we will get promoted to the National League,” Judd added.

Ahead of the match against his former club Leyton Orient at Park View Road later this month, Judd said he was excited to face some familiar faces but made it clear that he and his new team are fully focused on getting fit and gaining game time ahead of the new season.

Judd played 58 times for the O’s over six seasons, including a return to the Football League. The right-back also won the EFL League Two Apprentice of the Year award during his time at Brisbane Road.

“It will be nice to play against my old club and see some old faces, but the most important thing is that we get fit as a team, play and prepare for the new season. It will be a good test.”

Tickets for the Wings’ first pre-season friendly this summer at Park View Road on Tuesday 16 July are on sale now here.
