Geoff and Ken Derrickson Memorial Scholarships awarded

Three local students have received scholarships totaling $12,000 from the Geoff and Ken Derrickson Memorial Scholarship Foundation, which supports local first responders and their families.

Recipients Noah Ryan, Leonora Demerutis and Benjamin Clifton each received a $4,000 scholarship.

The scholarship was endowed by Betsy Baumeister and Bob Derrickson to honor the lives of their sons Ken and Geoff Derrickson, twin brothers who died separately at a young age. Baumeister and Derrickson have never forgotten the support and care their family received from Rehoboth emergency responders; they endowed the scholarship as a thank you for supporting local emergency responders.

Members of the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Department and the Rehoboth Beach Police Department and their families are eligible to participate. Firefighter juniors and police seasonal cadets are also eligible to participate.

Scholarship recipients are in good standing with the Rehoboth Beach Police Department or the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company and have been selected based on their leadership skills, academic achievements and participation in service organizations.
