Tyler Perry supports possible BET sale to Scott Mills “100%”

Tyler Perry is showing his support for the merger of David Ellison’s Hollywood studio Skydance Media with Paramount Global. The reportedly $8 billion deal will make Ellison chairman and CEO of a strengthened Paramount, while former NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell will serve as president.

When Perry was asked on the red carpet at the New York premiere of his latest film, Divorce in the Black, if he had spoken to Paramount about the updates, he said: diversity He said he has already had a conversation about the latest turn of events: “They haven’t reached out to them as often as I’ve reached out to them to tell them that I’m really excited about this next chapter.”

The entertainment titan also spoke about other big changes in the industry affecting his productions. Just this April, Perry signed a new multi-year deal with BET Media Group that includes the renewal of eight of his shows for BET and the BET+ streamer.

On July 2, Bloomberg reported, citing anonymous sources, that Paramount Global was in talks to sell BET in a deal valued at $1.6 billion to $1.7 billion to “buyers that include” BET CEO Scott Mills and Chinh Chu, founder of private equity firm CC Capital.

“I’m a huge fan of Scott and if he can negotiate this deal and make it happen, I support him 100%,” Perry said. “He and Shari Redstone are the reason I’m here. They’ve been fantastic to work with. I love working with Scott every day and will continue to work with him in whatever capacity he’s in.”

Perry was joined at the screening by the film’s cast: Meagan Good, Cory Hardrict, Taylor Polidore, Richard Lawson, Debbi Morgan, Shannon Wallace and Joseph Lee Anderson.

Good, who also serves as a producer on the film, told diversity what it was like to work both in front of the camera and behind the scenes within the coveted Perry production bubble.

“Producing with someone who appreciates everything you bring to the table – especially when you’ve been around as long as I have – you don’t always get that feeling,” she said of Perry. “It’s something really special.”

The film follows Good’s character Ava, who is devastated when her husband Dallas abandons their marriage. She was once willing to fight for the relationship until his cruel actions sabotage Ava’s need to find a true soul mate.

Other notable guests also attended the premiere, including Good’s boyfriend, controversial actor Jonathan Majors, as well as Gayle King, Sherri Shepherd, Nick Barrotta and Melissa Gorga.

Good also took time to reflect on why it was important to work on a project that focuses on important social issues, such as escaping abusive relationships and fighting for a better life.

“I want people to feel empowered,” Good said. “Every woman, every man who sees this – whether they’ve experienced domestic violence, whether they’ve been through divorce, whether they’ve experienced heartbreak, whatever it is – I want them to just feel how important they are, how lovable they are, how valuable they are, that they don’t have to settle, and that sometimes the worst moments in life are actually blessings. And sometimes the things that we think are kind of destroying our lives give us new life in a different way.”
