Promotions, Hires and Recognition


Dr. Bobby Mukkamala was elected President of the American Medical Association (AMA), the nation’s largest physician organization. Mukkamala is an otolaryngologist from Flint who graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School and completed his residency at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago. He will take office as AMA president in June 2025 after a one-year term as president-elect.

Fessler & Bowman, Inc. has promoted Janice Addison to Vice President, Jay Hutchins Vice President for Human Resources and Nicholas Percy as Vice President of Cost Estimating.

The Flint & Genesee Business Alliance was recognized by Facilities in generala site selection publication, with an Economic Development Organization (EDO) award for 2024. The award recognized the Economic Alliance, a division of the Flint & Genesee Group, for its work in attracting a job-creating project to Genesee County’s Advanced Manufacturing District. The division was one of six mid-sized economic development organizations representing an area of ​​100,000 to 500,000 residents recognized by the publication, and one of 24 from across the country.

Fifteen local leaders have successfully completed and Flint & Genesee Touran eight-month leadership development program from Flint & Genesee Education & Talent. The Hilton Garden Inn Flint Downtown was named one of the Annual Brand Winners 2023 and received the Hilton Award for Excellence.

McLaren Flint has named Kelly Jakubika trained nurse, as 2024 McLaren Flint DAISY Nurse LeaderThis award recognizes people who are not directly involved in patient care but are committed to creating an environment of compassionate and competent care. In addition, Vanessa Whipple was awarded the McLaren Nursing Excellence Award 2024. Whipple is a nurse on the Cardiac Stepdown Unit and is described as someone who goes above and beyond in providing the care his patients need.

Outgoing Mott Community College president Dr. Beverly Walker-Griffea was appointed director of the Michigan Department of Lifelong Learning, Advancement and Potential (MiLeap). Created by executive order, MiLEAP’s mission is to improve outcomes from preschool through high school so that everyone in Michigan can succeed by receiving a solid education and finding a good-paying job. The new department oversees several functions in the areas of early learning, higher education and educational partnership.

Rowe Professional Services Company to welcome several new employees to his team. These include Thomas Abbotta talent acquisition specialist, Chris Vaclavik as senior technical engineer, Brandon Jonas as Planner II and Skyler Winkle as technician II.

Sedgewick + Ferweda Architects has stopped Crystal Alexander as the new Marketing Director.

THA Architects Engineers has made several changes to its leadership team. Architect David Bennett was elected president of the firm. He has been with THA Architects Engineers for 19 years and is a member of the Flint Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards.

Laurence Alexander was approved as University of Michigan-FlintThe next permanent chancellor was appointed by the University of Michigan Board of Regents. He most recently served as chancellor of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. His five-year term at UM-Flint began July 1.

Helen Garbarino was employed as a communications specialist at University of Michigan-Flint School of Health Sciences.

Molly BaadeCustomer service representative at WNEMTV5/Gray Mediawas recognized as the first Account Executive at WNEMTV5 to achieve one million dollars in direct sales in 2024.

Crossroads Village and Huckleberry Railroad has announced a partnership with Frankenmuth Brewery to introduce two new sodas that will be sold at the popular park. The two new drinks are Huckleberry Handcrafted Root Beer and Crossroads Citrus Crush Orange Soda and are made by the nearby brewery.

ELGA Credit Union (ELGA CU) has agreed to Marine Bank & Trust Company (Marine Bank). This acquisition combines ELGA CU’s consumer and low-income lending expertise with Marine Bank’s commercial and treasury management offerings. Upon completion of the acquisition, ELGA CU will have nearly $2.2 billion in total assets, serve 105,000 members and expand its offerings to people throughout Florida and Michigan with 18 branches.

Financial Plus Credit Union is a partnership with PeckhamThe Growth Opportunities (GO) program supports participants with financial literacy, coaching, and services. The GO program is a nonprofit organization dedicated to working with people to help them overcome disabilities and other barriers to employment. The goal is to help participants discover their career interests, find training opportunities, and develop leadership skills through mentoring.

The Genesee County Land Bank has announced Gatehouse Condominiums in Carriage Town. These 16 condominiums will offer a mix of market rate and income restricted units that will help create a more diverse and equitable community.

Redwood Steakhouse has opened the catering business in Gateway Hotel & Convention Center. Redwood will serve as the exclusive caterer for the property and will oversee bookings for the space. The restaurant at the Gateway Hotel & Convention Center has been renamed Basil and Olives and will feature an Italian and Mediterranean menu.

Engineering News Record (ENR) has named Rowe Professional Services Company oneNR Top 500 Design Company. ENR is a respected source of construction industry news and analysis.

The University of Michigan-Flint (UM-Flint) and Flint Cultural Center Academy (FCCA) have partnered to add a high school to FCCA’s offerings. The university and FCCA have signed a three-year lease to house the new high school at the Northbank Center beginning this fall. FCCA currently offers K-8 education to students at its campus on Robert T. Longway Boulevard. Plans are to house 50 ninth graders at the UM-Flint campus in the fall, with additional grades to be added in subsequent years.

Show newspaper group has acquired J-Display Newspapers covering Middleville and Caledonia, Michigan. J-Ad Newspapers is nearly 80 years old, bringing the total number of newspapers offered by View to 21 and circulation to over 330,000 per week. This is View’s largest acquisition since 2009.
