The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is investigating a tragic car-pedestrian crash that claimed the life of 36-year-old Juan Eufracio Lopez Gutierrez. The incident occurred early this morning on 1925 Farm to Market Road, north of Elsa.

According to authorities, Juan Eufracio Lopez Gutierrez, a resident of Edcouch, was crossing FM 1925 on foot when he was struck by a Chrysler vehicle. The impact ejected Gutierrez into the air and landed on the windshield of a Chevrolet Silverado that was also traveling east on FM 1925. The Silverado was occupied by a male driver and two male passengers.

DPS spokesman Hernandez reported that Gutierrez died at the scene from serious injuries sustained in the collision. Fortunately, the drivers of both vehicles and the two passengers in the truck were uninjured.
