It’s an “interesting social documentary that we brought to life” (Exclusive video interview) – GoldDerby

“I realised how brilliant it was,” says “MasterChef” judge Joe Bastianich while discussing the “Generations” theme of season 14, which pits Generations Z, X, Millennials and Baby Boomers against each other in the kitchen. “We have four active generations that are still actively living in our society. That’s not always the case. There are four very distinct age groups with different stories, different inclinations and different views on food. Bringing them all together is a super interesting social documentary that we’ve brought to life. I’m proud to say that I’m participating in very intelligent television.” Watch the full video interview above.

The winner of this season’s first Mystery Box Challenge was Rebecka, a 63-year-old food blogger from Castle Rock, Colorado, who won over the judges with her meatloaf. “This is a great example of a dish that is right in the boomer genre and that no one would think of. You put it on the table, get it perfect and it wins,” the judges said.

Another entertaining element of this season were the guest judges in each audition round, including Bastianich’s Emmy-winning mother, Lidia Bastianich. “She’s a baby boomer, she’s been doing this for nearly 50 years,” Joe reveals. “It’s great to have her experience, great to have her on the show. She treats me like I’m seven years old, I’m always in danger of getting slapped in front of everyone. Apart from the fact that it hurts my ego, it’s good to have her on the show.”

“MasterChef” airs Wednesday nights at 8/7c on FOX.
