The celebrity chef, who has taken Food Network on tour in his hugely popular reality TV series “The Great Food Truck Race,” begins his journey this year at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. Season 17 premieres Sunday, June 30.

Florida has been featured extensively on television in The Great Food Truck Race since the reality TV cooking competition debuted in 2010. Over the years, there have been several food truck teams/competitors from Florida, as well as various “stops” here in the Sunshine State.

The same applies to the summer of 2024: Florence and her “cheftestants” will compete in Fort Myers and then finish the race in Miami.

“Nothing embodies summer better than The Great Food Truck Race, and this season’s first route along the Gulf Coast will take our trucks to places we’ve never been before,” said Betsy Ayala, head of food for Warner Bros. Discovery, in a press release. “Every time these talented teams arrive at a new location, it’s a real event.”

In February 2024, Florence and a production crew from The Great Food Truck Race filmed an episode for the Gulf Coast season during a stop in Southwest Florida. The celebrity chef posed for photos with fans between takes while checking out competing food trucks.

The Food Network show was also filmed in Fort Myers in 2019. While in Southwest Florida at the time, Florence visited local restaurants in Naples.

What is the reality TV cooking competition series “Great Food Truck Race” on the Food Network?

Food truck teams travel across the United States making culinary “rest stops” for a chance to win $50,000. “The Great Food Truck Race” premiered on the Food Network in 2010 with host Tyler Florence. The show’s bio states: Each team must demonstrate their culinary expertise, marketing skills and sales abilities in themed challenges to beat their rivals and stay in the race.

What is the 2024 Food Network show “Great Food Truck Race” about?

Celebrity chef Tyler Florence, long known for his appearances on the Food Network and its sister channel Cooking Channel, welcomes nine food trucks to NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, where they begin their epic road trip through nine cities along the American Gulf Coast for $50,000.

According to a press release, “These first-time food truck teams face daunting challenges in hopes of earning unprecedented rewards, including medals that will carry over to the next town. Tyler splits the teams into groups that must compete for revenue in a sales frenzy, and the two weakest teams face a shocking elimination.

“The race then moves on to Galveston, Texas, where baseball all-star Justin Turner serves as judge in a ‘Ballpark Bites’ challenge. Upcoming episodes include a boisterous food brawl with All Elite Wrestling tag teams The Acclaimed and The Gunns in Pascagoula, Mississippi, and a challenge to serve the crowds at Mardi Gras in Mobile, Alabama.

In the season finale, the last two remaining food trucks will head to Miami’s famous South Beach Food and Wine Festival, where Food Network stars Maneet Chauhan (“Tournament of Champions,” “Chopped”), Jeff Mauro (“Food Network Star,” “Sandwich King,” “The Kitchen”) and Aarti Sequeira (“Food Network Star,” “Aarti Party”), as well as food influencers Owen Han and Toni Chapman, will help decide which food truck will win the $50,000 grand prize.

Season 17 of The Great Food Truck Race: Games on the Gulf features a new twist: Teams will be divided into Stars and Stripes squads, and each week’s top sellers will be awarded gold, silver and bronze medals, each with a cash bonus.

The season finale will take place on Sunday, August 4, 2024 at 8:00 p.m. EST at the prestigious South Beach Wine and Food Festival in Miami, Florida.
