Council urges licence withdrawal over ‘outrageous’ illegal waste disposal
A recently released image shows the “outrageous” illegal dumping that resulted in a waste disposal company being fined £10,000.
Dacorum Parish Council has brought charges against Eco Clear Waste Management Ltd, of Old Mill Lane, Hunton Bridge, after the company admitted the unauthorised dumping of controlled waste in Dodds Lane, Hemel Hempstead.
On 31 July, St Albans Magistrates Court ordered the company to pay a total of £13,475, comprising a fine of £10,000, costs of £1,159.73, victim compensation of £2,000 and compensation of £316.09.
Dacorum councillor for neighbourhood activities Robin Bromham said: “Illegal dumping is abhorrent and impacts on our environment and wildlife.”
“It is outrageous that a company with a waste disposal license is dumping garbage on our streets and paths.
“We are working on revoking their license.”
The court heard that a local authority officer visited the site on September 22 last year after several illegal dumpings were reported on the highway and found evidence of where the rubbish there had come from. It was then revealed that a local resident had hired the company to remove and dispose of his rubbish.
Eco Clear’s sole director apparently refused to negotiate with the council despite “numerous” attempts to contact him, resulting in the matter ending up in court.
Eco Clear Waste Management LTD declined to comment when contacted by the Watford Observer.
