Denton “Denny” Keith Kime, 82, passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, in Niles, Michigan.
Denny was born on March 11, 1942 in Niles, Michigan, to the late Forest Kime and Florence (Hubbard) Phillips.
In addition to his parents, Denny was predeceased by his siblings Beverly Gilchrist, Merle Kime and David Kime.
Left to cherish Denny’s memory are his beloved wife Marlene (Holtz) Kime, his daughter Lisa Donaghe, several nieces and nephews, and his first wife Wilma (Payne) Kime.
Denny grew up with the Barron Lake Boys and they remained friends throughout the years. Denny was a dedicated educator at heart and his love for teaching biology at Eau Claire High School and Lake Michigan College was matched only by his enthusiasm for coaching softball – inspiring young minds both on and off the field.
A loyal fan of Notre Dame football and women’s basketball, he carried the spirit of the game with him as effortlessly as he once played football, a testament to his time in the Sigma Nu fraternity. Denny’s commitment to his country was evident in his courageous service in the United States Marine Corps and testified to his strength and resilience in Vietnam, a place he later returned to as a symbol of peace and camaraderie.
In the company of his beloved wife Marlene, Denny found comfort and joy under warmer skies and enjoyed a well-deserved getaway each winter. His legacy endures – not just as a veteran, educator or inspector at Chardon Rubber – but as a man who lived his life to the fullest and with unwavering devotion to his community, his friends and the sport that shaped his life.
Denny’s family would like to thank all of the VA administrators and caregivers, especially Christine Phillips, Ricky Perez and Reyna Tello, for all of their love and support during Denny’s final days.
A memorial service for Denny will be held at a later date.
The organization of the funeral ceremony has been entrusted to Brown Funeral Home.
