Edinburgh man sentenced to 40 years in prison for fatal kidnapping
An Edinburgh man was sentenced to 40 years in prison Monday after pleading guilty to a kidnapping that led to murder, after investigators eventually found the victim’s body in a burning vehicle.
According to court records, Jorge Arredondo pleaded guilty to murder on Friday.
Arredondo was originally charged with capital crimes involving terrorist threats.
Arredondo is one of four people charged in the 2022 death of 37-year-old Teodoro Martinez.
According to the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office, Martinez was abducted by four people on March 25, 2022 from a residence in the 13,000 block of mile 21 1/2 in rural Edinburg.

Arredondo was identified as one of the people involved in the kidnapping.
While responding to the kidnapping, officers received another call about a burning SUV west of Val Verde Road on Mile 22 1/2 Road.
Martinez’s body was found in the vehicle, the sheriff’s office said in an earlier news release.
Trials for the remaining three suspects – Nallely Belmares, Josias Hernandez and Juan Antonio Dueñes – are scheduled for September.
