Flint: Booming advertising business approaches its 35th anniversary and aims for net zero with expansion

An international promotional products supplier with almost 35 years of business has expanded its operations while pursuing its carbon neutrality goal.

Flint-based company Preseli Ltd has successfully reduced its carbon footprint after receiving a grant from the Carbon Reduction Feasibility Fund.

The Fund is managed by Antur Cymru Enterprise with support from Pathway to Carbon Zero Ltd and Litegreen Ltd in partnership with Flintshire County Council.

Preseli is a trade-only importer and supplier of merchandise, gifts and promotional items. The company was supported by Pathway to Carbon Zero and Litegreen to find the most environmentally friendly way to reduce the carbon footprint of its Castle Park headquarters and warehouse, whilst building a new green office.

The 17-person company – a subsidiary of Hong Kong-based Preseli Enterprises Ltd – is also exploring renewable energy options as it strives to become even more sustainable. It has expanded its range of green services and switched to ocean freight where possible to minimise emissions.

“As a company, we are very conscious of our carbon footprint and that of our industry and want to proactively reduce our carbon footprint wherever possible,” said Managing Director Dave Wilson.

“The support from consultant Becky Morgan has been fantastic. Her extensive knowledge and contacts are helping us to develop longer-term carbon reduction plans.”

In collaboration with Pathway to Carbon Zero, Preseli began installing solar panels on its property.

“We have also installed light sensors in toilets and LED lighting and are promoting best practices such as turning off electrical appliances when not in use, reviewing staff transportation and replacing appliances with more energy efficient alternatives,” Dave said.

“As a company, we consider all areas, from recycling polyester lanyards into RPET pellets, to donating to relevant charities and joining the Flint Litter Pickers in an effort to become a litter-free business zone.

“This has been a very positive exercise and the support that has been available where needed has been invaluable. We are now more confident in our approach and grateful for the advice and guidance we have received through the Carbon Reduction Feasibility Fund.”

The fund is aimed at organisations in Flintshire and has received £297,294 from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Grants will provide businesses with expert advice on how to become a more sustainable organisation, as well as advice on equipment, buildings, energy use and systems and methods to help reduce their carbon footprint and increase profitability.

Fund manager Rowan Jones said: “It is fantastic to receive such positive feedback and I am sure the results will have a lasting and positive impact for Preseli Ltd and other companies and organisations across the region.”
