Former Robinson woman sentenced to 10 years probation for sexually abusing 14-year-old boy

WACO, Texas (KWTX) – A former Robinson woman who plied a 14-year-old boy with alcohol during a party at her home and then had sex with him was sentenced to 10 years probation Thursday.

A jury in Waco’s 54th State District Court convicted Stephanie Olivarez of sexual abuse of a child, rejecting her claim that the boy raped her and that she was the victim.

The jury deliberated for about two hours before granting Olivarez’s request for parole.

The jury also recommended that Judge Susan Kelly fine Olivarez, 38, $2,500.

Liz Buice and Luke McCowan, who prosecuted the case, said they were proud of the victim and “for his courage in speaking out and grateful for the guilty verdict in this case.”

Robert Callahan, who defended the case along with attorney Chris King, said he hoped for the best for Olivarez in the future.

“While we firmly believe in our client’s innocence, we are also very grateful that the jury saw her as a whole person and gave her the chance to lead a productive life on probation,” Callahan said.

Olivarez testified Wednesday that she did not know it was illegal to give alcohol to minors and told the jury that she was drunk, passed out in her bed and woke up to the boy raping her.

The boy testified Tuesday that everyone at the April 19, 2018, party at Olivarez’s former home on Flat Creek Road in Robinson was drunk. He said he got in her bed and she came over, took off her clothes and had sex with him.

Olivarez, who was dating the boy’s father, also told him not to tell anyone what happened, he said.

A friend of Olivarez, Tricia Dawn Volpe, was released on eight years’ probation in March 2022 after pleading guilty to indecent conduct with a child following a party at her home that resulted in similar charges to those in the Olivarez case.

The women were arrested together by police in Robinson.
