Four young boys arrested in connection with arson at Fillmore Historical Museum on Friday morning
FILLMORE, Calif. – Four young boys were arrested Friday morning in connection with two arsons at the Fillmore Historical Museum.
On Aug. 18, firefighters were dispatched to the Fillmore Historical Museum in the 300 block of Main Street for two small fires, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release about the arrests.
The fires were extinguished, but further investigation revealed they were “suspicious in nature,” the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said.
On August 20, another fire of suspicious origin was set in the same area, and Fillmore patrol officers and fire investigators began investigating the fires, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said.
According to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, detectives and fire investigators investigating the museum on August 22 found further evidence that the fires were intentionally set.
With the help of Fillmore School liaison officers, detectives identified four boys, a 14-year-old and three 12-year-olds. On the morning of August 23, all four were arrested and reported to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.
All four boys were summoned and released to their parents pending their appearance in juvenile court, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said.
According to the US Fire Administration, children are responsible for about 40 percent of intentional fires.
