Don’t miss these events in the Oshkosh area this week.

OSHKOSH – Events planned for Labor Day weekend in Winnebago County include the Hmong National Labor Day Festival, Fox Jazz Fest and Twisted Roots Corn Roast.

Other offerings include the opportunity to learn about the state’s bizarre history with the help of Chad Lewis, and the Time Cinema will be showing some films from the 1980s.

The Fox Jazz Festival takes place in Menasha from August 31 to September 1.

The 29th annual Fox Jazz Festival will be held August 31 and September 1 at Jefferson Park in Menasha.

The free, family-friendly music festival celebrates jazz with local, regional and national artists. Local vendors also offer food and drinks.

Lakecia Benjamin is the headliner for August 31st and Jazzmeia Horn will headline the September 1st lineup.

Chad Lewis sheds light on the “bizarre history of Wisconsin”

Learn more about the “Bizarre History of Wisconsin” during a program on Sept. 4 with Chad Lewis. The free talk will be held from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Oshkosh Public Library, 106 Washington Ave.

Chad Lewis, author and researcher, presents more than 100 bizarre Wisconsin newspaper stories that have not been published for over 100 years. Travel back to the early days of the state when it was full of strange deaths, ghosts, sea serpents, strange people, medical anomalies, oddities, psychic phenomena and UFOs.

Lewis has appeared on several television shows, written over 30 books on the supernatural, and gives lectures about his findings.

The Hmong National Labor Day Festival takes place in County Park

The 2024 Hmong National Labor Day Festival will be held August 31-September 1 at Winnebago County Community Park, 501 E. County Y, Oshkosh. Doors are open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and admission is $8 per person.

Events include men’s soccer, men’s and women’s volleyball, junior volleyball, topspin, cornhole, and dance and pageant competitions.

Films from the 1980s at the Time Cinema

Get a dose of 1980s nostalgia with movies at Time Community Theater.

“Zone Troopers” (1985) will be shown on August 30th. The film is rated PG. Admission is free.

On August 31st, “Road House” (1989) will be shown. The film is rated R. Admission is $4 per person.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the film will be shown every evening at 7:00 p.m.

The Time Theater is located at 445 N. Main St. Cash only is accepted at the ticket counter and for concessions.

Twisted Roots hosts its ninth annual corn roast on September 1

The ninth annual corn roast will be held September 1 at the Twisted Roots Tavern, 693 N. Main St., Oshkosh.

Enjoy free corn and live music from 5pm to 10pm

Local band Absolute Zero will play on the outdoor stage at 6pm.
