Harris campaign mocks Trump for his ‘handlers’ who outvoted him

Michael Tylerthe Vice President’s Communications Director Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign, mocked the Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump about the ongoing debate over the rules that will govern next month’s debate between Trump and Harris.

After both reportedly agreed to an ABC News debate under the same terms as the June CNN debate — where the other candidate’s microphone would be muted while the other spoke — the Harris team tried to renegotiate that point so that both microphones would always be on. According to various reports, the status of the debate itself was called into question by that disagreement.

But on Monday, Trump himself spoke out in favor of keeping the microphones on for the duration of the debate. He told reporters that while the campaign teams had “agreed” to the same rules as the CNN debate, he “didn’t care.” “I probably would have preferred to have it (the microphone) on,” Trump said.

On MSNBC, Tyler took the opportunity to tease Trump by suggesting that his “advisors” did not trust him.

“I think her (Harris’) position is the same as Donald Trump’s, because he went on to say in that same conversation that he doesn’t care,” Tyler said. “He doesn’t care if the mics are hot or not, and frankly, he would rather they were hot. So I think that issue is resolved unless Donald Trump allows his advisers to overrule him. We’ll have a full debate between the two candidates with live mics where both candidates can lay out their vision of where they want to take this country.”

anchor José Díaz-Balart expressed surprise that either party would withdraw from the debate over such a “trivial” issue and pressed Tyler to ask whether this was a crucial issue for Harris’ campaign.

“No, it shouldn’t be. Because Donald Trump himself said again today that he doesn’t care, he has no problem hearing microphones throughout the debate,” Tyler said.

Díaz-Balart pressed further, asking, “Does it matter to the Harris debate – to Harris’ campaign – whether it’s open or not? I mean, is that enough to prevent –“

“That’s absolutely our preference. We absolutely prefer live microphones in this campaign so that the American people can see both candidates as they are and hear everything that comes out of their mouths,” Tyler said. “Donald Trump will be on the debate stage talking about his plans to ban abortion. He’ll heckle, he’ll rant, he’ll rant.”
