Horrifying and troubling: Horwath on Ford's refusal to condemn anti-choice statements

QUEEN'S PARK — Multiple members of Doug Ford's government participated in and took the podium at an anti-choice demonstration at Queen's Park Thursday. Doug Ford refused to denounce their comments, including the vow from PC MPP Sam Oosterhoff that "we pledge to fight to make abortion unthinkable in our lifetime." Ford subsequently released a statement that, again, refused to denounce the comments. Andrea Horwath released the following statement:

"We are horrified that Doug Ford continues to refuse to denounce his MPPs’ dangerous, anti-choice and anti-women position.

We know the Supreme Court of Canada has long-since settled and set in stone women’s legal right to access medical abortion. But Doug Ford is cutting health care and upending our entire health care system as we speak. Women all over Ontario now have to worry that women’s health could be squeezed, targeted, harder to access or subject to cuts as a result of the Ford government's beliefs.

Every woman has the right to make decisions about her health care, her family and her body, including the decision to seek a safe medical abortion. Sam Oosterhoff and Doug Ford have no right to attack that.”
