Joseph W. Davis, 98, of New Vienna, died six days before his 99th birthday, on August 22, 2024.
He was born on August 28, 1925 in Highland County, the son of the late Roy C. and Fronia (Johnson) Davis.
Joe graduated from Fairfield High School in 1943. His life revolved around farming, where he was a member of the FFA and Young Farmers while in high school. He served on the Farm Bureau and the County Line Farm Bureau Advisory Council. Joe and his son Ken were awarded “Cooperator of the Year” by the Soil and Water Conservation. He enjoyed camping trips with family and friends and working with wood.
He leaves behind his son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Christa Davis of Leesburg, his grandson Evan (Leah) Davis, his granddaughter Ellen (Matt) Binegar, his joy of life, six great-grandchildren, Brady Binegar, Brenna Binegar, Eva Davis, Colston Davis, Mabel Davis and Rudy Davis, nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 67 years, Fannie (Gambrell) Davis (on June 14, 2019), and his brother Ralph Davis.
The viewing will be held on Tuesday, August 27th from noon to 2 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home. Rich Allen will officiate. Burial will follow at the New Vienna IOOF Cemetery.
