Man threatens woman with gun and machete in Saratoga County
A frightening situation deescalates
The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office’s outstanding police work de-escalated a potentially very volatile situation this week after a man threatened to take the life of a woman he knew by first holding a gun to her head and then threatening her with additional threats of a machete.
The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a domestic incident after midnight Thursday morning. The woman inside the home told police that a man she knew put a gun to her head and threatened her with a machete inside a home on Sinclair Road in the town of Edinburg.
The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office said the woman was able to get out of the house after the incident. However, according to the report, the threatening man left the house, locked the doors from the outside and re-entered the house by climbing through the window.
Special operations command in action
According to the report, sheriff’s office personnel were unable to communicate with the man via loudspeaker, so a special operations team and sheriff’s office crisis negotiators were dispatched to the scene.
According to police, the special task force managed to remove the unnamed man from the apartment after several hours of inactivity and take him into custody.
He was charged with two counts of second-degree menacing, fourth-degree illegal possession of a weapon and second-degree harassment.
