Islamabad: The Pakistani port city of Karachi was hit by a severe power outage on Sunday.

Power transmission from the national grid to Karachi was abruptly disrupted, resulting in power outage in the city’s Nazimabad, Defence, Sharea Faisal, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Nursery, Shah Faisal, New Karachi, Clifton, Landhi, Korangi and others, Dawn reported.

The disruption was caused by a technical defect in one of the high-voltage lines that supply Karachi with electricity from the national power grid, a spokesman for the energy company said.

The 500-kV transmission line was disrupted due to humidity and fog, which have high water vapor content. Repair work would take hours, the spokesman added.

The governor of Sindh province, Ishratul Ibad Khan, ordered the authorities to ensure that the city’s electricity supply is restored as soon as possible.
