CRAWFORD COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Sheriff Lewis Walker says the man was missing for two days before authorities found him in the Flint River.

In a press release, the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office says 53-year-old Jody C. Hedley was last heard from on August 5. The next day at around 5:40 p.m., a family member realized they could not reach Hedley and reported him missing.

Officers were told Hedley might be approaching the Flint River boat ramp on Georgia Highway 128. According to Sheriff Walker, officers searched the area later that day but were unable to locate Hedley.

With assistance from the Department of Natural Resources and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office resumed the search on August 7.

The DNR found Hedley’s body in the river south of the Flint River Boat Ramp. According to Sheriff Walker, Deputy Coroner Randall Pate pronounced Hadley dead at the scene. His body was sent to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy.

The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office and the GBI are working to determine the cause of Hadley’s death. Sheriff Walker has asked the GBI to lead the investigation.
