Nationwide search for invasive aquatic species on Saturday | News

LAKE TOMAHAWK, Wisconsin – On Saturday, August 10, volunteers will search for aquatic invasive species (AIS) in Wisconsin habitats as part of UW-Extension and Wisconsin DNR’s annual Snapshot Day.

The aim of this annual day is to protect lakes, rivers and wetlands from invasive plants and animals by identifying them and removing them from the affected areas.

Invasive aquatic species can negatively impact habitat, wildlife, recreation and health.

Participation is open to local groups, volunteers and anyone else. Participants meet at a local training site run by a local partner. After a short training session on identifying the aquatic invasive species, volunteers search for AIS at another monitoring site.

No previous experience or special equipment is required for the event and it is free of charge. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
