Betty Owens Hunt

Betty Owens Hunt, age 94, passed away on Monday, August 19, 2024.

She leaves behind her daughters Dr. Karen Hunt (Tony Birmingham) and Janice Hunt Hoagey (David Hoagey).

She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Dr. William Everett Hunt, as well as her sisters Ruth Cowell, Lucille Allen and Mary Jo Smith, and her brother George Owens.

She was born to the late Ura and Ernest Owens in Whites Creek, Tennessee, where she lived on the family dairy farm until her father died when she was 12. She moved to Nashville, attended Hillsboro High School, and graduated from David Lipscomb High School.

She was a homemaker and a long-time volunteer with the Pink Ladies of Baptist Hospital (St. Thomas Midtown). She loved gardening and entertaining at home and was a member of the Green Hills Garden Club and the Horticulture Societies of Cheekwood.

Her strong faith in the Lord was always evident and she was a lifelong member of the Hillsboro Church of Christ.

She was a devoted mother, sister and wife who always sacrificed her time and needs to ensure that her family’s needs came first.

The prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi is the essence of her life. She was an instrument of God’s peace.

She was able to sow love where there was hate, faith where there was doubt, hope where there was despair, and was a beacon of light in the darkest of times and brought joy in the sad times, and through her death she was born to eternal life. She was loved and will be missed, but not forgotten.

She will be buried at Woodlawn Cemetery following a private funeral service with family.

Special thanks go to Caris Hospice and all the staff and administration at Belmont Villages for making her final years so happy.

Special thanks to Randall Pardue for his continued spiritual support and guidance, even until her final day.

Special thanks to the Hillsboro Church of Christ who knew and loved her.
