Offroading on a whole new level: Directly to MI Lake
Drunk driving is a serious and dangerous offence that poses a serious risk to all road users. It puts lives at risk and can have devastating consequences. That is why it is vital for law enforcement to take every opportunity to remind the public of the serious risks associated with driving under the influence of alcohol.
With that in mind, the Leelanau County Sheriff’s Office recently posted a video on its Facebook page that might seem somewhat amusing at first. The footage was reminiscent of a scene from “The Office” in which Michael Scott drives his car into a lake because his GPS told him to do so.
However, it is important to recognize that the real-world context of this video is anything but a joke.
As silly as the video posted by the sheriff’s department may seem, they coupled it with a very serious message:
The Leelanau County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind drivers that it is extremely important to pay full attention to the road while driving. Speed, alcohol and drug use are things that usually do not end well behind the wheel.
The incident occurred on August 16 in the Village of Omena, Leelanau Township. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence and taken to jail. The case has been forwarded to the Leelanau County District Attorney for further review.
So, Michiganders, enjoy your last weeks of summer — but be smarter than the person behind the wheel of that truck. Let’s all drive safely and responsibly. If you’ve been drinking, find a safe ride home.
