Oxnard teenager in stable condition after being shot in the neck Thursday night
OXNARD, Calif. – A 17-year-old Oxnard woman is in stable condition after being shot in the neck in the 500 block of Cuesta Del Mar Drive Thursday night.
On August 22 at around 9:12 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Cuesta Del Mar Drive because several shots had been fired in the area, Oxnard police said in a news release about their investigation on Friday.
Minutes after officers were dispatched, several 911 calls came in about a single-vehicle crash at the corner of Rose and Emerson Avenues. One caller told Oxnard police that a person had been shot in the crash.
When officers arrived at the scene of the crash, they found a 17-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to the neck. She was taken to a nearby hospital for emergency surgery, Oxnard police said.
The teenager is currently in stable condition and the other two people in the vehicle are uninjured, Oxnard police said.
According to Oxnard police, witness statements and evidence collected at both crime scenes indicate that the teenager was traveling with two passengers in the 500 block of Cuesta Del Mar Drive when an as-yet-unidentified person fired several shots at the vehicle.
The three occupants of the vehicle fled the area and took the 17-year-old to the hospital when they became involved in the traffic crash, Oxnard police said.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Randall Gonzales at 805-288-3289 or via email at [email protected].
