NAPOLEONVILLE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Sidney W. Clifton, 59, of 12430 River Highlands Road, Apartment B, St. Amant, LA, for sex crimes against a child.

On July 16, 2024, patrol officers were dispatched to an address in the 6400 block of LA 1 near Belle Rose regarding alleged sex crimes involving a minor.

Officers made contact with the complaint and advised that on July 15, 2024, Sidney W. Clifton visited an individual at the address near Belle Rose and sexually assaulted a child there. Officers were also informed that the juvenile victim was permitted to accompany Sidney W. Clifton to a local retail store that same day. Upon leaving the retail store, Sidney W. Clifton drove to a secluded area and again attempted to touch the juvenile victim there. His attempt was rebuffed by the victim. Sidney W. Clifton then took the child back to the residence near Belle Rose and told her not to tell anyone.

The case was referred to the Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation. Investigators conducted an examination, including checking electronic surveillance equipment.

At the end of the investigation, detectives obtained arrest warrants against Sidney W. Clifton.

On August 21, 2024, Sidney W. Clifton was arrested by the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Sidney W. Clifton was transferred to the custody of the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office on August 22, 2024. Clifton was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on the following charges:

*Indecent behavior towards minors
*Sexual coercion – violent groping

For both of the above offenses, registration as a sex offender is required.

Sidney W. Clifton remains in custody pending a bail hearing.

At the time of the crime, the child was under 10 years old.
