A 73-year-old Mississippi man is in the Ventura County Jail accused of murdering three women in Ventura County about 47 years ago.
According to prosecutors, DNA evidence links Warren Luther Alexander to Kimberly Carol Fritz, Velvet Ann Sanchez and Lorraine Ann Rodriguez, who were killed by strangulation in 1977.
Fritz, 18, was murdered in Port Hueneme on May 29, 1977, Sanchez, 31, was killed in Oxnard on September 8, 1977, and Rodriguez, 21, died on December 27, 1977.
The unsolved investigation into the deaths began in 2023 and involved the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office, Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, Oxnard Police Department and Port Hueneme Police Department.
It led to Alexander, who was found in North Carolina, where he is being prosecuted for an unsolved murder committed in that jurisdiction.
He was extradited from North Carolina to Ventura County on Tuesday.
He appeared in Ventura County Court on Wednesday to face three counts of first-degree murder and, under special circumstances, multiple counts of murder.
Alexander’s arraignment was postponed until August 21st at 9 am
He remains in prison and has no chance of release.
Authorities are continuing to investigate Alexander as they believe there may have been other victims.
