Telford martial arts club attracts worldwide attention with young team
These athletes have already demonstrated their talent at national level, consistently achieving high placings in competitions such as the British Open at the Telford International Centre in May. Their dedication to their craft, honed under the guidance of experienced coaches such as club owner Sam Stewart, has now earned them the incredible opportunity to represent their club and country on the international stage at the ICO World Combat Martial Arts Championship in Frankfurt in October.
Team members include youngest member Taylan (6), Riley (8) and Edward (14). Taylan is phenomenal with his Double Nun Chuck Kata which earned him second place and was awarded first place in the Extreme Musical Weapons Using Kama category at the ICO British Open competition. Riley is an outstanding weapons master and won first place at the ICO British Open with his Sai Kata which was praised by the head judge. Edward is part of the combat team which focuses on kickboxing and combat boxing and achieved impressive podium finishes (second and third place) at both the WKO English Open and ICO British Open.
What is particularly impressive is that Taylan and Riley have already achieved such high placings in prestigious competitions such as the ICO British Open at such a young age. The teams’ consistent podium finishes at various tournaments are a testament to their fighting skills.
This success is not only a testament to the hard work and talent of the young athletes, but also a reflection of the supportive atmosphere that prevails at Kyushinkai. The club emphasizes the core values of martial arts such as respect, perseverance and teamwork and promotes not only physical skills but also well-rounded personalities.
Riley shares his enthusiasm for competition and says: “I am very happy to have been selected for Germany because I can compete for my country there and hopefully win more medals – bring it on!”
Edward added: “We are incredibly proud to represent England. Training requires a lot of dedication and hard work, but it is an honour for our club and hopefully a source of inspiration for our whole community.”
Competing at an international level requires significant commitment and resources. The club is currently seeking local sponsors to help cover travel costs, competition fees, uniforms and equipment for the team. In return, sponsors could receive valuable exposure through team uniforms, social media advertising and event mentions.
Kyushinkai invites the community to support these exceptional young athletes on their exciting journey. For more information about the club and team, visit their social media pages.
