“At 5:16 p.m., local law enforcement reported flash flooding in the Capital Region. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain has fallen. The expected rainfall amount is 1 to 2 inches in one hour,” the weather service explains. “Flash flooding in small streams and rivers, urban areas, highways, roads and underpasses, and other poorly drained and low-lying areas.”

Places affected by the warning include Albany, Schenectady, Troy, Clifton Park, Rotterdam, East Greenbush, Cohoes, Watervliet, Rensselaer, Colonie, Scotia, Mechanicville, Nassau, Latham, Delmar, Guilderland, Niskayuna, Duanesburg, Menands and Westerlo.

The weather service adds: “Turn back, don’t drown if you encounter flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.”
