What is open and closed in Reston on Labor Day 2024?

RESTON, VA – Labor Day weekend marks the unofficial final peak of summer as many families head to beaches and other destinations or host backyard barbecues.

Labor Day falls on Monday, September 2. On that day, Fairfax County government offices and other services will be closed. Many students who have already started school will have a four-day weekend from Friday to Monday. Other services, such as public transit, will be open with schedule changes.

If you are looking for something to do, some of the events in the area include The Roots at Wolf Trapthe Washington Nationals against the Chicago Cubs and the City of Fairfax’s annual Labor Day car show.

Here are the openings and closings you should know about in Reston.

Government offices in Fairfax County: Closed on Monday, September 2nd.

Fairfax County Public Schools: Closed Friday, August 30th and Monday, September 2nd.

Dishes: Fairfax County District Court, General District Court, and Juvenile and Family Court will be closed on September 2.

Motor Vehicle Authority: All DMV customer service centers are closed on Labor Day.

Fairfax connection: Fairfax Connector will begin Sunday service on Monday, September 2. Routes operating on Sundays are 101, 109, 151, 152, 161, 162, 171, 310, 321, 322, 371, 401, 402, 423, 463, 467, 558, 574, 605, 615, 630, 642, 651, 662, 672, 721, 803, 901, 921, 924, 937, 950, 952, 954, 983, RIBS 1, RIBS 2, RIBS 3, RIBS 4 and RIBS 5. Libraries: On September 2, the Reston Regional Library and other Fairfax County Public Library locations will be closed.

Metro: Metrorail is open from 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Saturday and from 7 a.m. to midnight on Sunday and Monday.

Post offices: Closed on September 2nd.

Recreation centers:All Fairfax County recreation centers will be open from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Colvin Run Mill and Sully historic sites and the EC Lawrence, Hidden Oaks, Hidden Bond and Huntley Meadows nature centers will be closed.

Garbage and recycling collection: Regular pickup services will apply to pickup customers in Fairfax County starting September 2. Customers picking up their items privately should check with their carrier for any changes.

Garbage and recycling centers: The recycling and disposal centers at the I-66 transfer station (4618 West Ox Road) and the I-95 landfill complex (9850 Furnace Road) will be open September 2.
