QUEEN’S PARK—NDP Official Opposition Leader Andrea Horwath released a statement following news that the Ford government is delaying retroactive cuts to municipal childcare, paramedic services and public health units in 2019:
“Delaying these cuts is just delaying the pain it will cause families when provincial funding is ripped away from programs that ensure our drinking water is safe, stop the spread of communicable diseases, and help make desperately needed child care a little more affordable. Ford’s callous cuts to these services are just as damaging next year as they are this year.
Municipal leaders, families and New Democrats everywhere have been coming together and pushing back against Doug Ford’s callous cuts. Today’s announcement proves that the mounting opposition to Doug Ford’s scheme is working and shows that we need to continue to push back until these deep cuts to frontline services are reversed once and for all.
No one voted for Ford’s cut first and ask questions later scheme. New Democrats will continue to stand with families everywhere in pushing back against Ford’s cuts.”
